Significant Matters in Private Practice:

  • United States v. McDonnell - Represented the former Governor of Virginia in a public corruption case wherein the Supreme Court unanimously overturned all convictions.

  • Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association - Organized and litigated a precedent-setting First Amendment challenge to "agency fees" paid to the California Teachers Association by public school teachers. The Supreme Court adopted our theory in Janus v. AFSCME.

  • Noel Canning v. NLRB - Successfully represented a small bottling company before the Supreme Court in its challenge to President Obama's "recess appointments" to the NLRB.

  • Securities and Exchange Commission v. Wahi - Represented an individual charged with "insider trading" of various crypto tokens. The litigation resulted in a favorable settlement following our widely covered motion to dismiss.

  • United States v. Sittenfeld - Currently representing a former Cincinnati Councilman charged with corruption offenses based on his acceptance of lawful campaign contributions.  Appeal pending in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

  • Arneson v. Raimondo - Currently representing two commercial fishermen in a structural constitutional challenge to the Magnuson-Stevens Act's provisions creating regional fishery management councils. Appeal pending in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
